In today’s world, you have to pay a price for every single thing. However, there is one thing that comes absolutely free of cost, an opt-in email list. Believe me; list building doesn’t require any kind of monetary investment. For the past 2 years, I have been building, altering and revamping my list. Apart from time, hard work, patience and dedication, I haven’t invested a single penny in it.

There are countless free list building methods, but a majority of them are either infeasible or ineffective. Here are top 5 methods that you can blindly use to build an opt-in list free of cost:

  • Articles- What is every internet-user tirelessly searching for? The answer is information. People need information that can solve their problems, and if you are able to provide them that, they will readily join your subscriber’s list. Articles are considered to be the best vehicles to spread invaluable pieces of knowledge.

All you need to do is to write simple, error free and information-laden articles. Submit your exemplary compositions to article directories, and do introduce yourself and your business in the resource box. Last, but not the least, insert a link to your squeeze page.
  • Forums and Discussion Boards- These are a good way to interact with like-minded people. Forums as well as discussion boards allow you to speak your mind fearlessly, put forth your doubts and get instant remedies to your problems. Additionally, they are also a good resource of prospective subscribers. Hence, do put a link to your squeeze page at the end of each comment. Often, forum moderators forbid direct links to squeeze pages. In such a case, you can put a link to your website.
  • Blogs and Blog Comments- Another indomitable way to interact with prospective subscribers is through a blog. A blog is a place where:
    • You can talk about your products or services
    • You can post innumerable ‘how-to’ tidbits
    • You can frankly tell your prospects the benefits of your subscription
    • You can clarify all their doubts
    • Finally, you can convince them to join your opt-in list.

Do remember to place a link to your squeeze page at the end of each blog post.

In addition to managing your own blog, leave comments on other related blogs. Your comments should be absolutely appropriate, else they will be deleted. In every blog comment, add a link to your squeeze page or your website.

  • Signature Lines- All your outgoing emails should have a signature line. Basically, a signature line is a text file where you can put your name followed by your address and a link to your site. If the contents of your email are interesting, the readers would definitely visit your site as well as subscribe to your newsletter.
  • Podcasts and Videos- Another method to build your opt-in list free of cost is through videos and podcasts. With free audio-video recorders and editors like WaveSurfer, Audacity, MP3Split, ZS4 Video Editor, VirtualDub and Cam Studio, you can easily create first-rate podcasts and videos. Do mention the web address of your squeeze page in the end.

Later,
Jeff Sargent
